Her recent book examines how people can face challenges and thrive, without taking ownership, but instead turning to God. In the second half of the show, Steve interviews Marian Edmonds-Allen, who worked with Utah legislators to protect homeless LGBTQ teens and shares how she’s learned to solve issues facing our community.

When was the last time you bit into a sweet, warm, and gooey chocolate chip cookie? I can imagine that your first thought when you took a bite was probably, “Wow, I’m in heaven! This is delicious,” and not, “Wow, I’m so glad someone failed.” Ruth Wakefield invented chocolate chip cookies on accident when experimenting with cookie recipes. The result of chocolate in cookies was nothing like what she was trying to accomplish, and yet that failure was the birth of what is arguably the best cookie in the world. So what can we learn from Ruth’s example? How can we learn how to embrace our mistakes as learning moments on our path to success? With us today is motivational speaker Ganel-Lyn Condie to teach us how to embrace making mistakes.

Grief is complex. There are so many struggles and challenges that each of us face each day, and sometimes they can build up to be unbearable, sending us into a spiral of grief and doubt, like a whirlpool in a storm. But even the harshest storms we can learn to bear, and overcome. But how do we learn to navigate the storms of grief? And how can we learn to help others who are struggling do the same? We are excited to have motivational speaker and author Ganel-Lyn Condie joining us again to tell us how to navigate grief.

There is an old African proverb that goes: Once after a storm, the beach was littered with starfish. One man walked down the beach and picked up on starfish at a time and chucked them back into the ocean. Another man walked by and scoffed, “you will never be able to save all the starfish out here.” To which the wise man responded, “yes I know, but to this one I have made all the difference” as he throws one more into the ocean. How does this proverb relate to us, in a world full of more problems that are bigger and more complex than we can solve on our own? What are the things we can do to make the world a little bit better for those around us?

Teachers have been the unsung heroes of the pandemic as they’ve juggled constant changes to their classroom environment. They’ve been forced to double the lesson plans in order to accommodate online learning, socially distanced in-person learning, and even blended learning. They’ve had to teach their own kids who are learning at home while also caring for the needs of all their other students. Teachers have been nothing short of superheroes. So, because it’s teacher appreciation month, we wanted to discuss ways we can express our heartfelt gratitude for everything they’ve done for our kids over the past year. And here with us today is motivational speaker and writer Ganel-Lyn Condie to help us out.
